Tomasz Schafernaker is a broadcaster and meteorologist for the BBC as well as a self-taught artist.
Born in Poland, he grew up in both London and Gdańsk.
Fascinated by visible natural phenomena, he pursued a degree in meteorology at the University of Reading, graduating with a BSc in 2000.
His broadcasting and forecasting career has spanned over two decades, during which he has also maintained his passion for art.
As a creative, he moves fluidly between analytical and artistic thinking.
This is reflected in a broad range of styles from hyperrealism to abstraction, inspired by his scientific background.
His approach is often influenced by a fascination with light, colour, texture and movement. These elements are especially evident in his depictions of weather phenomena.

Self-Portrait
“The artwork incorporates elements of my dual career as a meteorologist and an artist.
It features a green screen to represent my work in television, and the expression on the face is a nod to weather forecasting and my whimsical sense of humour!
The contrasting and vibrant colours symbolise my aesthetic preferences in art and design”
